Long Term Care Training – Housekeeping and Laundry or Dietary Aide
- Practical Training certificates provided to those with Grade 12
- Clean criminal record
Housekeeping and Laundry requires no further training except for those accepting permanent positions with Norview. In such cases employees are required to obtain Housekeeping and Laundry methodology course which are available on-line within 12 months of accepting the position. NO OTHER FACILITY requires this additional certification.
Dietary Aide Training allows the client to obtain hands on training within a facility in order to increase their life skills surrounding the work environment and enable them to determine if this area of employment is suitable to them. The Safe Food Handling certificate is included in the community placement training and is required prior to the start of the community placement
When this training is complete clients are able to accept employment in this field however will be required by the employer to enrol in the Food Service Worker Course available evenings at Fanshawe College. Each employer monitors the client’s progress in the certificate course and can terminate employment should the employee not succeed in this course.
Personal Support Worker (PSW) Orientation
This is a Job Specific training program which provides the client with hands on training and orientation in the day to day duties of a PSW. It will determine if the client is suited for this type of employment and if PSW certified.
- Must have grade 12 English
- Has six high school credits attached
This program is provided by GELA and is open the public. Support to clients who have completed PSW orientation for funding is available. This certification allows graduates to obtain employment as PSW’s. The course includes CPR/First Aide training, Safe Food Handling Certificate, GPA certificate and Dementia Awareness training on top the mandatory training outlined by OCSA.

Personal Support Worker Program
Niagara Catholic District School Board
The Personal Support Worker program teaches the essential skills necessary to care for people living at home and in institutional settings. Classroom labs will prepare students for the opportunity to demonstrate their skills at a clinical setting in a long-term care facility. In order to meet program requirements, students must complete a theory component, complete required hours in a long-term care facility, as well as within the community. Successful students may seek employment in hospitals, nursing homes and other long-term care facilities, community care facilities, and private homes.
