The L.E.A.D. program is for people who have current or past lived experiences of poverty and
marginalization and who are seeking to make a difference in their own lives and in their community.

What is self-advocacy:

  • Communication and Reflection skills
  • Anti-oppression
  • Rights and responsibility/Problem solving/Developing a plan/Ways to stay organized
  • Community supports for advocacy/Social media/Self care
  • Sitting on committees and boards/Overview of political systems
  • Reviewing of non-verbal communication/Story telling as a tool
  • Negotiation strategies/Self-esteem and advocacy

This is an 8 week consecutive course focusing on:

  • Communication and Facilitation
  • Conflict Resolution
  • How to participate on community committees and boards
  • Insight into the effects of oppression
  • Advocacy and Leadership and how to work within political systems

Transportation and child care costs may be covered by Ontario Works & Social Services while you are participating in the program.
